As the year begins, I find myself reflecting on the many beautiful places I have had the privilege to visit, and I am once again in awe of the goodness of the Lord. Each memory reminds me of His faithfulness, His beauty in creation, and His constant presence in every season.
Today in particular, I am reminded of a visit to Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. One striking scene still lingers in my heart the rocks, bold and unmoved, standing firm even before the rushing stream of water around them. Before one’s eyes are drawn to the flow of the water, the rocks command attention. They are steady, grounded, and immovable.
That image stirred a deeper question in my spirit: Who is the Rock of my life?
When the winds and storms of life press against me, is my foundation solid enough to remain strong just like those rocks in the photo? When the pressures of work, ministry, relationships, and destiny arise, what am I truly standing on?
I am glad to say with confidence that Jesus is the Solid Rock on which I stand, and it is my sincere prayer that the same is true for you. When Jesus becomes our firm foundation, we are no longer shaken by the uncertainties of life. We are anchored in truth, secured in purpose, and covered by His promises.
When we make Jesus our Rock, no weapon formed against us shall prosper, because our foundation is unquestionably firm.
Matthew 16:18
“And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock, I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.”
Isaiah 54:17
“No weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and this is their vindication from me,” declares the Lord.
These are not just beautiful scriptures to quote they are covenant promises for those who are firmly established in Christ.
Yet for these promises to find expression in our lives, the Lord has also given us keys to the Kingdom. Through these keys, we exercise our authority as sons and daughters of God. Scripture reminds us that what we bind on earth is bound in heaven, and what we lose on earth is loosed in heaven. This is not passive faith; this is active, intentional partnership with Heaven.
Matthew 16:19
“I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you lose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”
So then, what are these keys of the Kingdom? There are many, but some of the ones I hold especially dear are:
- Sacrifice
- Wisdom
- Prayer
- Obedience
- Humility
These are not merely spiritual disciplines; they are divine access points that help us walk in Kingdom authority and manifest God’s promises in our daily lives including in the marketplace.
If the Lord has already given us both the promise and the keys to see those promises fulfilled, then it follows that it is to our advantage to willingly deny ourselves anything that may be holding us back.
Sometimes, the greatest hindrances are not external battles but internal compromises the things Scripture describes as the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life. These can quietly erode our spiritual stability if left unchecked.
1 John 2:16
“For everything in the world the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life comes not from the Father but from the world.”
In surrendering these things, we make room to take on His righteousness the righteousness that is freely available to all who believe.
Romans 10:9–10
“If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.”
By accepting Jesus as our Rock through salvation, we step into a life of security, identity, and authority. But beyond that initial decision, we are called to continue walking with Him in obedience and humility, consistently following His ways.
Proverbs 10:29
“The way of the Lord is a refuge for the blameless, but it is the ruin of those who do evil.”
As we journey through this year in our homes, our ministries, and especially in the marketplace may we be intentional about our foundation. May we ask ourselves often:
What am I standing on?
Who is my Rock?
Is my life built on what can be shaken, or on the One who is eternal?
My prayer is that we would all find our confidence, our covering, and our courage in Christ Jesus the unshakable Rock.
And as we stand on Him, may we boldly exercise the authority He has given us through the keys of the Kingdom, so that His promises are not just admired from a distance, but fully manifested in our lives.
On Christ the Solid Rock I stand.
And I pray the same for you.
Shalom.
