Anytime I think about going to the shopping mall there’s this unexplained excitement. Is it the shoppers? Is it the new things on sale? Is it the discounts? Is it the food? Is it thought of having a new outfit, shoes, etc.? Whatever it is, I cannot put my finger on it, but I know I am not alone and my fellow sisters can relate. My excitement cannot be contained. On the other hand, my husband would rather sit alone in the car garage staring at his old BMW than go shopping. Imagine the opposing emotions that run in our home anytime we go shopping. However, he does give in because he would rather keep the peace.
This made me think of heaven’s store, and I could not help but think about it this way.
My husband always insists that whenever I go to the store, I have my shopping list. Truthfully, most of the time I do not carry a shopping list because I trust myself to remember. However, I occasionally disappoint myself and forget, and my husband will give me that look of “I told you so.”
Just as a worldly shopping list contains all the things we need, the shopping list for heaven’s store contains what we need for the abundant life promised to us in the form of our Desires, Wants, Needs, etc. The Lord already knows about them, but it’s paramount that we write them down. Habakkuk 2:2 says, “Then the Lord answered me and said, ‘Write the vision and engrave it plainly on [clay] tablets so that the one who reads it will run.”
Normally at the beginning of each year, organizations set goals for the year, and each employee is tasked with setting individual goals to align with their team and the overall goal of the company. In the same way, you need to also have your spiritual goals laid out. When was the last time you set spiritual goals? Philippians 4:6 says, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”
Trolley/Cart /Shopping Bags
Recently, my home country did away with plastic bags, so now stores have come up with these beautiful bags to entice their shoppers. I find myself enthralled with them, so I keep them for my next visit to the open-air market, “Mama Mboga.” The bags are distributed at the counter after the shopping is complete, and the size is chosen based on the size of your purchase. Some stores charge for the bags, while others don’t. In heaven’s store, these are the guardian angels who walk us through the different shelves and as we choose, they protect. Psalms 91:11 says, “For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways “
Technology allows us to make payments in various ways, making it easier for shoppers to use credit. My husband always asks about our shopping budget before we leave, and he ensures we stick to this. I, on the other hand, struggle to keep to this limit. It’s only logical to make purchases based on what you can afford, as no one wants to incur unnecessary expenses. In heaven’s store, our purchases have already been paid through the blood of Jesus, making heaven’s currency faith. Heaven does not respond to our shopping list of wants, desires, or needs; it only responds to FAITH. Jude 1 :20 says, “But you beloved, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourself in the love of God as you await the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring eternal life.“ The more faith we have, the more we unlock all available in heaven’s store.
Every purchase is accompanied by proof of payment—the receipt. Have you ever bought something only to reach home and discover the item did not fit? And you remember throwing away the receipt? This happened to me once, and from that day on, I keep my receipts. In heaven’s store, our receipt is the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is a guarantee that all our needs, desires, and wants have already been paid for. All we need to do is show the receipt proving that what we have in our bag is already ours! Ephesians 1: 14 says, “The spirit is God’s guarantee that he will give us the inheritance he promised and that he has purchased us to be his own people. He did this so we would praise and glorify him.“ NLV
You see, my friend, everything we need has already been purchased for us. All we need is faith to access it. As we do life, we find ourselves in need of all that is already available in heaven. Our needs in this seen world have already been provided for in the unseen world. The needs vary with the times and seasons we are in, but the solution is already available; we just need to grow our faith.
It’s intolerable for you to lack as a child of God when abundance awaits you. It’s intolerable to be in a workplace that you despise, therefore not being fruitful. Your work is an act of worship.
