Mum ensured ,the nine of us her daughters always had our birthdays celebrated.
It is coincidental that Everlyne my eldest sister and I not only share the month of (February )but also days consecutively i.e. 2nd and 3rd for our birthdays. With this, mum still would hold the celebrations separately ……..how sweet!

Mum did this because she wanted us to feel and know we are loved and special to her and Dad and it never mattered how many times and for how long she did this .

Christmas was the day where all roads led to the country side. I remember Dad having us all leave the house as early as 5.30a.m for the morning mass .The Priest would remind us through his sermon , the essence of Christmas celebration being the birth of Christ and would request us to live a life in-sync with this knowledge.

As the mass drew to an end, a sigh of relief is felt as we all quickly leave in the midst of congregational meeting and gatherings.
We were now destined for the festivities and the sizzling aroma from my mums kitchen could pervade the air as we teamed up with neighbors, relatives and friends . Lamb was normally the preferred delicacy and we could dig in and enjoy the meal.

I know am not alone in this and thinking through , it’s ironical to celebrate the birth of Christ with family and friends over a good meal and not have the birthday boy in your heart. We all go to birthday celebrations that we know the celebrated person. Infact it becomes so odd to be in a space where celebrations are going on having not received the invite to the party nor a familiarity with the person involved.

Jesus was born in a manger because there was no guest room available for them and his birth to us became Life. Its this Life in Christ Jesus that we celebrate .

Do you have room for Him in your heart?

How can you celebrate him when he is not born in your heart . The invitation is open for all to come and join others to proclaim Christ as our Lord and Savior. Do not celebrate outwardly and forget the most important inward celebration of a life surrendered to him through Faith .

Matthew 5:23-24 New International Version (NIV)
23 “Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother or sister has something against you, 24 leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to them; then come and offer your gift.

In the same breathe, if you are at the table about to take your special meal with family and friends and remember you are yet to surrender your life to Jesus Christ leave the table go to a quiet place and allow him into your heart as you say this prayer :

The Repentance Prayers

“Dear God,
I know I’m a sinner, and I ask for your forgiveness.
I believe Jesus Christ is Your Son. I believe that He died
for my sin and that you raised Him to life.
I want to trust Him as my Savior and follow Him as Lord,
from this day forward. Guide my life and help me to do your will.
I pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.”
